Bridging the Gap between Ambition and Action

Great Britain’s path to Net Zero depends on the widespread adoption of Low Carbon Technologies (LCTs), including heat pumps, electric vehicles (EVs), and hydrogen boilers. Insights from our LCT Tracker, which is conducted twice a year, highlight both growing consumer interest and persistent challenges, such as affordability, fragmented customer journeys, and insufficient infrastructure.

Our LCT Tracker reveals that while one-third of households plan to invest in LCTs in the next few years, over half are overwhelmed by conflicting information about grants, costs, and suitability. More than 10% are willing to spend over £5,000, reflecting significant potential if barriers are addressed. Heat pump satisfaction has declined, with consumers citing installation complexity and costs, while hydrogen boilers present a promising but still unclear alternative. EV adoption is increasing, but financial constraints and range anxiety remain key concerns.

The report underscores the need for government leadership to provide stable policies, industry collaboration to streamline the customer journey, and local authority engagement to build trust and accessibility. By removing obstacles and aligning support systems, the UK can bridge the gap between its ambitious Net Zero targets and the practical realities faced by households.
